Samguk Yusa Golden Bell Quiz Contest

The Samguk Yusa Golden Bell Quiz Contest invites high school students from across the country every year to promote the significance and various values of Samguk Yusa, and give them a chance to gauge their historical knowledge of Samguk Yusa. 50 students who pass the preliminary round earn a spot in the final round. The questions start off easy but progressively become more difficult to make sure only the truly knowledgeable survive. Winners, including those who get to ring the Golden Bell, are awarded a certificate and scholarship. Each award is named after King Muyeol, King Beopheung, and other figures that appear in Samguk Yusa, adding wit and fun to the whole Contest. The Samguk Yusa Golden Bell Quiz Contest is gaining quite the following from students, teachers, and parents nationwide, and it is considered one of the best examples of “edutainment” content not only in Korea, but also internationally.

What is Samguk Yusa?
  • County Festival

Every year, Gunwi-gun hosts its County Festival, a festival aimed at building unity and harmony between locals, and also sharing the joy of a bountiful harvest. The event, which brings everyone together as a community, instills pride in all 30,000 residents and encourages people to work together to build a better County to live in. It features a County sporting competition, a celebratory performance, a concert on the eve of the festival, and fireworks. The County sporting competition begins with an entrance ceremony, followed by an opening ceremony, and various sporting events (athletics, tug-of-war, ball rolling, etc.) that pit teams from each Eup/Myeon district against each other.

  • Hwabon Village Festival

The Hwabon Village Festival, themed “Hwabon, Let's Play,” gets underway at a closed school that has been turned into a museum (When Mom and Dad Were Young). Features cultural content inspired by the 1960s and 70s, the event has earned rave reviews from the public. The Daegu Metropolitan City Office even chose it as one of its best local festivals. The When Mom and Dad Were Young museum, an old school turned into a time capsule from the 1960s and 70s, offers a wide range of attractions, including old-timey games, well-being food options, and more. The cozy-looing train station, Samguk Yusa Mural Village, and the old school building all come together to add to the big festival hosted by Hwabon Village. It could be the perfect place to create plenty of fond autumn memories for families, couples, and friends.
